On October 26, 1926 Gerald Smith took off from the Inner Harbour in his Aeromarine flying boat carrying one sack of mail. A loose mooring line wrapped around the aeroplane’s propeller hub, reducing his takeoff power. He crashed into the home of Senator Robert F. Greene at 502 Rupert Street, three blocks east of the harbour. Both the Senator and his wife were at home at the time though neither was injured.
